Background of the Study
Eclampsia is a severe complication of pregnancy characterized by seizures, and it can lead to significant maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality if not managed promptly and appropriately. It is often preceded by preeclampsia, a condition marked by high blood pressure and proteinuria during pregnancy (Ojo et al., 2023). The timely recognition and management of eclampsia are crucial for improving outcomes for both the mother and the infant. Nurses play an essential role in the management of eclampsia, including early detection, monitoring, administering medications, and providing supportive care.
At Plateau State Specialist Hospital, nurses are frequently involved in the care of pregnant women, including those at risk for or experiencing eclampsia. However, there are concerns about the preparedness of nurses to handle eclampsia cases, especially in resource-limited settings. Inadequate training, lack of resources, and insufficient clinical support can contribute to poor outcomes for women with eclampsia (Adeyanju et al., 2024). This study seeks to investigate nurses' preparedness for managing eclampsia cases and their response to such situations at Plateau State Specialist Hospital.
Statement of the Problem
Eclampsia is a life-threatening condition that requires rapid intervention to prevent maternal and fetal death. However, many nurses may not be fully prepared to manage eclampsia due to inadequate training, insufficient resources, and limited exposure to high-risk pregnancy cases. At Plateau State Specialist Hospital, the preparedness of nurses to handle eclampsia cases is crucial for improving patient outcomes. This study aims to assess nurses' preparedness and response to eclampsia cases in the hospital.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on nurses working in the obstetrics and gynecology units at Plateau State Specialist Hospital. It will assess their preparedness, response strategies, and the challenges they face in managing eclampsia cases. Other healthcare professionals, such as obstetricians and anesthetists, are not included in the study.
Limitations include the reliance on self-reported data and the cross-sectional nature of the study, which may not capture long-term trends in nurses' preparedness or improvements in care practices over time.
